How can I do my work?


There are many excellent open source programs available to run under Linux to perform familiar tasks.  Here is a sample.  Some of these also run under Windows.


Web browsing Mozilla Firefox
Instant Messaging GAIM multi-protocol messenger supports AIM, ICQ, MSN, Yahoo and other protocols.
Word processing OpenOffice.org Writer can read and write Microsoft Word, Word Perfect and other word processor formats
Spreadsheets OpenOffice.Org Calc provides compatibility with Excel, Quaatro and other spreadsheets
PowerPoint OpenOffice.Org Impress can read and write PowerPoint files

Graphics The GIMP provides tools to manipulate images
